Department Overview

Pinpoint Pathogen Detection for Effective Cure

In an era of rising antibiotic resistance, blind antibiotic prescriptions can lead to treatment failure and complications. Medchikitsa's Microbiology Department isolates causative bacteria, fungi, and parasites with high-precision culture techniques and provides Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) sensitivity profiles.

From unexplained fevers and chronic urinary infections to respiratory conditions and wound sepsis, our rigorous incubation protocols ensure accurate identification and rapid notification of critical results.

  • Automated Blood Culture Monitoring: Real-time colorimetric detection of bloodstream infections and bacteremia.
  • Standardized Antibiotic Susceptibility: Complete CLSI-compliant testing against latest first-line and reserve antibiotics.
  • Mycobacteriology & AFB Staining: Specialized screening for pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis.
  • Comprehensive Fever Panels: Rapid immunodiagnostics for Dengue, Malaria, Chikungunya, and Typhoid fever.

Patient FAQ

Microbiology Testing Guidelines

Bacterial culture requires living microorganisms to reproduce in specialized agar media under controlled incubator conditions (24–48 hours). Once colonies grow, another 24 hours is required to test various antibiotics against the specific bacteria.

Yes, absolutely! Whenever clinically safe, culture samples should be collected BEFORE starting antibiotic treatment. Even a single dose of antibiotics can inhibit bacterial growth in culture, leading to false-negative results.

Clean the genital area with water. Pass the first few drops of urine into the toilet, then collect the middle stream directly into the sterile container provided by Medchikitsa without touching the inside of the cup or lid.
